Information

This Poole Pottery Chestnut Milk/Custard/Sauce Jug, designed by Robert Jefferson, was the first of his Compact range designs to be released. It has a reddish chestnut brown glaze with snow white interior.

The world famous Carter & Co. factory operated from Poole, Dorset from 1873-1921.  Their stunning output included Art Pottery and Tiles.  In 1921 the firm became Carter, Stable and Adams and it continued to produce fine pieces in the Art Deco period.  Tile production also continued - the platform frieze at Bethnal Green tube station for instance is their work.  Much of the ceramic tiling used on Underground stations was made at Poole.

In the 1950s the name Poole first appeared on their items.
