Here we have three most interesting Duos decorated in the Oriental style.
These would have been produced in Staffordshire at the time when English potteries were aiming to reproduce the beautiful china items coming into the country from the East.
The cups and saucers are made from earthenware, to which the odd flake will testify, and then covered in a white glaze to simulate china.
They are hand-painted on transfer. At this time, many of the painters at the factories were children. It is fascinating to look at the finished areas of painting - they are all different - some better than others !
Dating from the nineteenth century, these charming pieces tell us much of the social history relating to the manufacture of ceramics.
Approximate dimensions : Footed Cup x 3 2.25" / 5.5cm high x 4.5" / 11.5cm wide incl. handle
Saucer x 3 5.75" / 14.5cm
There is a small flake under one of the saucers, a small flake to the rim of one of the cups, wear under the bottom edge of a cup and a hairline to a handle. All in all, in remarkably good condition for items approaching their second century.
Will make a most striking display.
All our items are pre-owned and these pieces are antique and will therefore show signs of use and age and will not be dishwasher proof.
