This beautiful Myott plate carries a central motif depicting 'The Chelsea Bird' and includes the signature of A. Roberts who devised the original design for the transfer.
Myott, Son & Co. Ltd. - one of the Staffordshire Potteries - began production in Cobridge in 1898. The pottery moved to Hanley in Staffordshire in 1947 and suffered a large fire in 1949. This resulted in the loss of many patterns and valuable records, thus making this 'Chelsea Bird' design from the 1930s, a fabulous part of British ceramic history.
Myott also manufactured white ware which they produced for the Cunard shipping company, including cubist style tea sets.
