A gorgeous cake, bread or sandwich platter with tab handles, in the Spanish Garden pattern designed by Midwinter's most famous designer, Jessie Tait. She was apparently inspired by a Liberty tie! The swirling leaves are almost psychedelic and perfectly evoke the mood of the 1960s. Jessie believed that its popularity was in part due to the use of more traditional colours rather than the high fashion colours of the day.
Spanish Garden was displayed on the Fine shape designed by the Marquis of Queensberry. It was meant to compete with the bone china being produced by other potteries and move away from Midwinter's look of the fifties. It was Midwinter's best selling range in the 1960s and was launched in 1966.
