A really pretty tea set for two from J&G Meakin's Sol range. Decorated with sprigs of yellow and blue flowers. Further decorated with bands of varying widths in pale green, pale blue and grey on a cream ground. The set is comprised of a tea pot & lid, two teacup and saucer duos, a milk jug and an open sugar bowl.
J & G Meakin were manufacturers of domestic tableware and based at the Eagle Works, Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent from 1851 - one of the Staffordshire potteries.
Meakin was well-known for its "Sol" wares produced between 1912 and 1963. The highly acclaimed Studio range appeared from 1963 to the late 1970s. In their early days, they were famous for white granite (undecorated ironstone) wares in a French porcelain style. The Eagle Pottery works were sadly demolished in 2005 after 154 years.
