Information
Hornsea Pottery Co. Ltd. was formed in 1951 in Hornsea, Yorkshire.  Success necessitated expansion and a new factory was opened in Lancaster in 1972.

1974 saw the launch of products based on a collaboration between Lord David Queensbury and Martin Hunt.  A most successful range of 'Lancaster Vitramic' designs followed, starting with Contrast.  The chocolate brown vitramic body was created by Colin Rawson.  It required firing at high temperature and was then polished to a smooth matt finish by vibrating with ceramic pellets.

Contrast won a Design Council Award in 1975 and the London Victoria & Albert Museum added the design to their permanent collection in 1976.  Production was from 1974 to 1992.

Here we have a Milk Jug or Creamer and a Lidded Sugar Bowl in this design classic.  There is a slot in the lid for the spoon.   The Jug would be equally useful for sauces or custard.  The Bowl would be equally useful as a Jam Pot.
