These stunning Duos were manufactured by Ellgreave Ltd, which operated from Burslem - one of the Staffordshire Potteries.
Harry Wood, who at this time was chairman of Wood & Sons, founded Ellgreave in 1921. It operated as an associate of Wood and Sons until it ceased production in 1978. Ellgreave's main output was for teapots and quality domestic earthenware, but they also made figurines, tableware, vases and piggy banks.
This lovely collection comes in the Saxony range. Covered in a deep sage-green glaze is a figure-of-eight swirled raised pattern which conveys echoes of Art Nouveau design. Created during the 1970s, this must have been one of the last ranges to be produced before the pottery ceased trading.
